About
I have been building mechanisms since I was a kid. I made an arrow launcher with a release from an umbrella button and a hook. I rigged pulley systems that could lift my own weight. I built a fruit picker from a pole, a basket and a pair of scissors pulled by a string. My favorite was a small hydraulic crane powered by medical syringes. None of these were photographed, but they started everything.
After my B.Eng. in petroleum engineering at Baku Higher Oil School, I spent four years offshore as a wellsite geologist at SOCAR AQS. I worked on high pressure, high temperature wells at Gunashli, high-angle wells at West Absheron, and the Tuzgol underground gas storage wells in Turkey. My job was to supervise mud logging, LWD and wireline operations as the company geologist.
In 2024 I came to the University of Oklahoma for an MS with Dr. Baharak Sajjadi. I built a cold flow dual fluidized bed rig from scratch, set up its pressure and flow sensors, and wrote the Python code that turns raw signals into results. I used the rig to characterize solid circulation and check earlier simulation results. Gary Stowe helped me build the reactor, and Jeff McCaskill helped me get the circulation materials. I am now a PhD student at OU, and I have been a teaching assistant for Statics and Dynamics, Rock Properties Lab and Reservoir Engineering II.
The part of engineering I enjoy most is mechanical design: working out how parts should move, then using math and physics to make that motion better. Building the rig brought me back to it, and it is where I want my work to go.
